Introduction

Octovel is a non-profit, volunteer-driven open-source organization. We build and maintain free developer tools with a strong commitment to simplicity, transparency, and user respect.

This Privacy Policy describes how Octovel handles information in connection with the use of our website (octovel.org) and all Products maintained by the Octovel organization.

The short version: we do not collect any data about you. Not even telemetry.

1. Data Collection

Octovel does not collect, store, or process any personal data, usage data, or telemetry of any kind through its website or Products.

This means:

  • No analytics or tracking scripts are embedded in our website or software.
  • No telemetry, crash reports, or diagnostic data are collected from our Products.
  • No account registration or authentication is required to use our website or Products.
  • No cookies are set by Octovel beyond those strictly necessary for the website to function, if any.
  • No advertising networks or data brokers are involved in any capacity.
  • No user profiles are created or maintained.

If you use our Products, we have no knowledge of it. If you visit our website, we do not track your visit.

2. Third-Party Services

While Octovel itself does not collect any data, some aspects of our infrastructure rely on third-party platforms that operate under their own privacy policies. These include:

  • GitHub - Our source code, issues, pull requests, and community discussions are hosted on GitHub. Interactions with our GitHub organization are subject to the GitHub Privacy Statement.
  • Discord - Our community server is hosted on Discord. Participation in our Discord server is subject to the Discord Privacy Policy.
  • Hosting providers - Our website may be served through a third-party hosting provider. Standard server-level access logs (such as IP addresses and request timestamps) may be retained by the hosting provider in accordance with their own policies. Octovel does not access or process these logs.

We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party platforms you interact with through Octovel.

3. Cookies

Octovel does not use cookies for tracking, analytics, or advertising purposes.

If any cookies are set in connection with the website, they are strictly functional in nature, for example, to preserve a user interface preference. No consent is required for strictly necessary cookies under applicable regulations, and no personal data is derived from them.

4. Children's Privacy

Our website and Products are not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children. Since we collect no data at all, this applies universally.

5. Your Rights

Since Octovel does not collect or store any personal data, there is no data to access, correct, export, or delete on our end.

If you have interacted with our community spaces on GitHub or Discord, any data associated with those interactions is held by those respective platforms. Please refer to their privacy policies for information on exercising your rights.

6. Changes to This Policy

Octovel reserves the right to update this Privacy Policy at any time. The effective date at the top of this document will be updated accordingly. Any significant changes will be communicated through appropriate community channels.

Given the nature of this policy, material changes are unlikely. We nonetheless encourage you to review this page periodically.
